LORINA BY THE
BROOK
SCENE - THE BROOK
Daylight. The Brook. LORINA
sits with her younger sister
ALICE by the lake. LORINA is
reading a book on philosophy as
ALICE makes a daisy chain
crown. LORINA starts to mumble to
herself as she reads, causing
ALICE to walk over to her to
look into her book.
ALICE
What good is the
use of a book
without pictures or
conversations.
LORINA
Really?
ALICE
How do you know
what the writer
wants you to know?
LORINA
Here's a hint
little sister, you
read the words.
ALICE
Yeah?
ALICE notices a WHITE RABBIT
pass by in a clothes. LORINA's
eyes stay on her book.
LORINA
Or you use your
imagination.
ALICE
Did you just...
LORINA
(IGNORING ALICE)
Really Alice, for
someone with such
an extreme
personality, you really
do lack
imagination.
WHITE RABBIT takes out
a watch and shivers at the sight of the time.
ALICE
Lorina, there's a
rabbit over
there.
WHITE
RABBIT
Oh I'm late.
ALICE starts to freak out at
WHITE RABBIT talking.
LORINA
(STILL IGNORING ALICE)
You talk like a
grown up sometime.
But the queer thing
is that you
talk about childish
things like a
grown up. Now how
does that make
sense I ask you.
ALICE
(STILL FREAKING OUT)
The rabbit was
talking.
LORINA
(IGNORING ALICE)
That's nice Alice.
WHITE RABBIT hopes away.
ALICE runs after him.
LORINA
What you need to do
is get out of
your tiny bubble. I
think mother
and father have you
cooped you up
for far too long in
the house. It's
understandable that
you'd go mad.
LORINA puts her book down.
LORINA
(CONFUSED)
Alice? Alice? Where
did that girl
go?
LORINA gets up and walks on
to find ALICE asleep on the
grass nearby.
LORINA
Poor thing, she
fell right to
sleep. Oh well back
to Plato.
LORINA sits herself next to
ALICE's sleeping body and reads
her book.
FADE OUT
FADE IN
Twilight. The Brook. LORINA
is still next to ALICE and ALICE
is still sleeping. LORINA
puts her book down and looks at
the twilight sky.
LORINA
Oh dear look at the
time. Wake up,
Alice dear. Why,
what a long sleep
you've had.
ALICE slowly wakes up.
Exhausted.
ALICE
Oh, I've had such a
curious dream.
There were talking
animals. A
talking white
rabbit. I grew up, I
grew down. And the
Queen. Oh the
Queen. She's crazy.
LORINA
It was a curious
dream, dear,
certainly; but now
run on to your
tea; it's getting
late.
ALICE
I think I need to
get some rest.
LORINA
You were asleep all
day.
ALICE
It was very
exhausting.
ALICE tuns off. LORINA
stays by the brook as a WHITE RABBIT
passes by.
WHITE
RABBIT
I'm late again.
LORINA
(CONFUSED)
Did you just?
WHITE RABBIT hops away.
LORINA chases after him.
